Sometimes, the mountainous landscape of Mallorca can be seen from some points in the Iberian Peninsula. From the highest elevations of the Montseny massif is where you can see the island in its greater length when the air is very clean.

“On 6 December 2010, I decided to climb Turó Gros 1644 m height, in Montseny (Catalonia). During the climb the sky didn’t look like an especially clear day.  It was in the afternoon, being the sunset around 17:30h.
Near the summit the wind was very strong, just next to this peak is the Puig Sesolles where the Meteorological Service of Catalonia has an observatory and the wind measurements were near 80 km / h.
Once at the top, the wind made it difficult to maintain balance. At the begining the view of the island was not evident, although I tried to take the picture without knowing if it would be nice or not.
It was later, watching the image on the computer where I could see the scope of observation. The Tramuntana mountains almost from end to end, was a surprise. ”             -Ramon Ibarz (author of pictures)-

Geographic layout:

The weather was very favorable to contemplate those silhouettes. Here attached a link to a map of 850 hPa geopotential for that day.

Details of names of peaks in the same photo. The range of distances was between 213 and 240 Km approx. If the atmosphere would have been a little more clear in lower air, the visible range would have been even greater. By the other hand, you can see the panoramic simulation Ulrich Deuschle.

A year earlier

A year earlier but at the same day of calendar and from the same place, the same author managed to make a similar picture with some differences. In this case was extraordinary transparency in the highlands while in the lowlands were immersed in a much more humid air.
